The DB V60 locomotive was designed by Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) between 1955 and 1964 (built from 1956 to 1964) with the aim of replacing steam locomotives in shunting and marshalling services.
It is characterised by a C wheel arrangement (three coupled driving axles), a hydraulic transmission and a compact structure (length of approximately 10.45 m), making it suitable for railway environments with reduced dimensions, such as yards and sidings.
The front houses the operator’s cab, which is not in a precisely central position, while the engine and cooling system are located under the long front hood, and compressed air, tanks, and fuel supply are located at the rear.
Thanks to its versatility, the DB V60 has been used not only for shunting, but also for light freight services and, in some versions, on secondary lines.
