
The MaK G 500 C is a 3-axle diesel-hydraulic locomotive (C wheel arrangement) built by Maschinenbau Kiel (MaK) between 1966 and 1975 for shunting and service on industrial railways and in workshops. It was part of the second post-war MaK series, less powerful than its sister model the G 700 C, and introduced the use of Cardan joints for transmission instead of the earlier connecting rod transmission. The machines are known for their robustness, compactness and widespread use in industrial plants (steelworks, mines, ports, etc.), with many examples having had a long operational life and changed hands internationally.
